What is Based on a Fact?
In this dystopian universe with Artists, Muses, and Drones where inspiration is currency—nothing is ever as it seems. Based on a Fact publishes mock-journalistic blog posts about Lala Drona’s artistic exploits in third person. Lala Drona plays with the ideas of reflectivity, alternate realities, the boundaries between real and digital worlds, and the transitions between them in our daily lives.
Who is Lala Drona?
Lala Drona (b. 1988) is a Venezuelan-American painter and videaste, born in Denver, Colorado. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado, Lala Drona has since published and exhibited her work from North America to South America, and from Western Europe to Asia. Her paintings, videos, and writing explore the topics under “Women in the Digital Age.” She is currently based in Paris, France. To see more of her work, please visit:
What is The Lala World?
The Lala World is a dystopian universe in which Lala Drona runs an art laboratory. In the art laboratory, she and her assistants (whom she calls Drones) conduct experiments on muses in order to extract inspiration for her paintings. The Art Guild is the organisational body which passes all art-related legislation. From muse-rights protests, to Drones gone rogue, this dark and playful universe displays Lala Drona’s multi-media work. Paintings, videos, photography and the written word all tie together to create a cohesive and complex narrative.
