Academia brings back Paper Goblin

31 Jul

EICAR Rumors to the reason why Lala Drona has been off the radar have finally emerged.  Lala Drona has recently finished a screenwriting/directing workshop at L’école des métiers du cinéma et de la tv / The International Film & TV School – Paris  (EICAR ).  Along with other writers and film directors, she studied the art of screenwriting and directing films.  When asked about her incentive to take the course at the EICAR, she explained that she is researching different media in which  she can bring the universe she is creating to life. However, the artist hasn’t completely dedicated herself to the reel just yet.

On the contrary, the course has inspired her to write the first book based in The Lala World.   “The Lala World is a world rich with details integral to its existence.  It deserves a book before it’s adapted to film,” she said.

While taking the screenwriting course, Lala Drona wrote her first screenplay, a short film called “Tape Monster.”  The screenplay is inspired by the self-portraits she is currently painting for the Je Suis…

exhibition (taking place this October at The Maison des Ensembles) and by the Paper Goblin created in 2013.  “[The film] is about identity.  About accepting your inner monster and collaborating with it in order to create something beautiful.” The film “Tape Monster” is set to be released by the end of September 2015.  Shutupi is rumored to be the director of photography on set, and Lala Drona is said to be working with a prominent figure in the music industry for the soundtrack. SCANDAL: Lala fakes hypnosis video to steal donations

27 Sep

Straight out of jail and back to her old tricks.  Lala Drona was caught stealing donations with a fake sleep hypnosis video.  The full video has been flagged and removed from Youtube, but you can still find a clip of it below.  Since the video had been up for over a week, there’s no telling how much money Lala has stolen from innocent insomniacs everywhere.

Preview Cat Lady

A preview of Lala Drona’s newest (and unfinished) addition to her series Sexe Sans Sex.  Being the second time Lala has included animals in her series, Drones are not exactly shocked.  What’s shocking is Lala’s plan to create a sexually stimulated animal.  “This cat will in fact have an erection,” the artist stated in a correspondence with Based on a Fact.  What’s more, the artist plans to add faux-fur to the cat’s arm, so that onlookers can interact with the piece by petting the cat.  Though some may think Lala is perhaps tip-toeing on the line of bestiality, she quotes that “it is all in good fun.”  The elderly woman in the piece was inspired by someone Lala saw at a cat show when visiting another small city in France.  Keep a lookout for more updates on Lala Drona, her adventures and of course, her art.

Lala steals the show, but Fred saves the day.

31 Mar

Not this time!Lala made a short and unwelcome appearance yesterday at the annual “Perve Grandma Convention” where she was accused of stealing an art piece by special guest,

Fred Le Chevalier. The “Perve Grandma Convention” takes place in Paris to celebrate not just female sexuality, but elderly female sexuality.  “Just because we’re older, doesn’t mean we’ve lost our desire,” says Adrienne Marceau one of the events core coordinators.

These senior citizens join together every year to share their patchwork and hand-knit sweaters in order to raise awareness about the oppression of senior women’s sexuality.

Many thought Lala arrived to support the movement, but quickly realized she was up to no good.  Many guests stated she was visiting artists’ booths asking for ideas or inspiration.  Witnesses later saw Lala approach Jeannette Durand, an elderly woman that had just bought her 12th Fred Le Chevalier piece.

Lala violently ripped the art piece from Jeannette Durand’s hands and made a run for the door.   She almost made an escape, but fortunately, Fred Le Chevalier came to the victim’s rescue by stopping Lala in her tracks.  He repossessed the art piece and returned it to its rightful owner.  “He’s my knight in shining armor,” Jeannette stated after the incident.

Many guests wanted to call the police and threatened to have Lala thrown in jail once and for all in order to stop her crimes against muses and fellow artists.  However, Fred and Jeanette have both decided not to press charges and Lala roams free, continuing to skulk dark alleyways and hidden galleries, looking for inspiration in all the wrong places.

Caught! Into the rabbit-hole she goes…

22 Mar

Lala in La-la-landAs all you Drones know, Lala has locked herself up in her Paris home for the past week, causing many to worry about her mental stability and personal safety.  A video has surfaced of her painting a doll in a child-like style and chanting her own name.  Is this part of her Sexe sans Sex series, or has she fallen into a bizarre and perhaps damaging rabbit-hole?

The journalist who uploaded the video said that the reason (s)he invaded the privacy of the artist was “to make sure Lala was okay, and not a danger to herself or others…and also to reassure the authorities and fellow Drones of this.”

Based on a Fact questions how the doll Lala is painting fits into her overall Sexe sans Sex series.  Is this proof that Lala has really lost it?  Since this is the first time someone has documented Lala during the act of creation, we’re not sure if this proves mental instability or  represents an eccentric artistic process.  After some investigation, Based on a Fact found that “lala” means “doll” in Polish.  Perhaps it’s a stretch, or perhaps this proves a method behind her madness.

Lala herself has yet to respond to the breach of privacy, but in past interviews, she has commented on the topic.  “In our technologically advanced world, we’re all living in public.  It’s just where we’re heading.  Whether it means we are heading towards an Orwellian dystopia or a more ethical society; we don’t know yet.  Either way, we have a choice in front of us: embrace it or hide from it” (L.D. Times interview, 2013).

The Lala Laboratory

5 Mar

Abra Collabra!

Since the muse crisis, quality undocumented muses have been hard to come by.  Lala continues to refuse documented muse services and is rumored to have had bad luck with recent undocumented musework.  In a drought of inspiration, what is an artist to do?

Lala has kicked off the construction of her new Laboratory called The Lala Lab.  Here, she hopes to create a workshop for visiting artists which includes lodging for both muses and artists in residence.  The laboratory will be sectioned into two parts: one side for the muses, and the other for artists.  Selected Drones will be invited for residency in the Drone Location Research Program.

“The Laboratory will be a space of research and creation, as well as experimentation,” states Pauline Sager, Lala’s new publicist.  Lala’s team has been wheeling and dealing donors left and right to get the project off the ground (its estimated cost to be well into the hundreds of thousands of euros).  So why is Lala pouring every last penny into a dangerously fruitless endeavor?

Liza Laurence, a journalist for the L.D. Times ran into Lala in the Paris subway last week.  “When I asked (Lala) what her next move would be, she said, ‘I’ve completely drained myself of my own ideas.  That’s why I have always stolen them from others.’  She wrote something down in a notebook and looked up. ‘My muse is gone, and he took my right brain with him.  Time to use the ideas stored on the left side.’”

Midnight30The strange thing is, Lala seems to be denying muses and adopting artists.  In the past few months, she has been scouted by ZP Productions, and asked to do a series of collaboration pieces with another artist under the pseudonym Midnight 30.  ZP Productions (who is also helping finance the Lala Laboratory) is a company that links artists together in order to create unique series of art.  Hard at work, Lala is also co-writing a performance theater piece titled Art Show with friend Dean James Lovett who commented briefly on the collaboration.  “Lala and I are pretty much on the same track. We’ve just had a meeting, and there is serious potential.”

Dean James Lovett: "Art Show"

Is Lala teaming up with other artists in an attempt to overcome muse dependency?  If this is the case, she may be committing an age-old artistic faux pas.  Never use an artist as a muse.  There is an understanding in the community that one is either a muse or an artist, but never both.  Is Lala challenging this conception?  Or is she simply flailing, desperate to feed herself with stolen inspiration wherever she can find it?  Keep checking back to see what else this artist has got hiding up her sleeve.
